Body of woman, 61, found in Peckham flat after neighbours complained of 'bad stench' for 2 years

The body of a woman, 61, was found in a flat following two years of complaints of a “horrific stench” from neighbours. The woman’s body was found in a flat on St Mary's Road in Peckham, South London on Friday (February 18).

She reportedly had a full letterbox and owed thousands of pounds worth of rent. Her neighbours had apparently first complained of a bad smell to the landlord at their housing association in October 2019.

These complaints reportedly continued for two years, but police did not search the property until this week. One woman, who lives next door, told The Sun : "They told me she was basically a skeleton and asked me to confirm her ethnicity.

"It’s disgusting. I’m just shocked. I didn’t know her very well but she would sometimes collect my deliveries. I came back from a trip abroad in September or October 2019 when I noticed a horrific stench in the building. It was so bad, I had to put a towel under the door."
